Gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment is at the core of CFM’s business activities and ethos. Since becoming a signatory to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) in early 2021, CFM worked with its Project Companies to ensure its investments are gender-sensitive in the design and implementation of both its investments and community development programmes. As a result, CFM published a blog post on the Women’s Empowerment Principles website to showcase how the principles have facilitated in the delivery of its community development programmes.

CFM is pleased to have had the opportunity to highlight the beneficial results of being a signatory to the WEPS and how the principles have contributed to successfully empowering women through one of its community development programmes. The Women’s Empowerment Principles, established by UN Global Compact and UN Women, is on the cutting edge of facilitating a paradigm shift in terms of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace, and community. It is too often that other aspects of sustainability, such as renewable energy, forestation, and other decarbonization strategies steal the headlines and leave the topic of gender to the side. CFM, as a signatory and proud supporter of the Women’s Empowerment Principles, will continue to highlight the critical role that women play in the energy transition and how gender is at the very heart of creating a more sustainable and resilient world.
